What equipment do I need?

The equipment you need to connect to the NBN (National Broadband Network) depends on the type of connection you have and the services you require. Here are the basic equipment requirements:

NBN Connection Box

This is a small device that is installed in your home or business to connect your premises to the NBN network. The type of connection box you need depends on the type of NBN connection you have (fiber, fixed wireless, or satellite).

NBN Modem

This is a device that connects your router or computer to the NBN network. The modem converts the digital signals from the NBN into a form that can be used by your router or computer.

Router

A router is required to connect multiple devices to the NBN network. The router connects to the modem and allows multiple devices to access the internet. Some NBN providers offer a combined modem and router device.

Phone equipment

If you require a phone service, you may need a VoIP phone or an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) to connect your existing analog phone to the NBN network.

It is important to note that the specific equipment requirements may vary depending on the NBN provider and the type of services you require. Some providers may offer combined devices or other equipment that simplifies the setup process. It is best to check with your NBN provider to determine the specific equipment requirements for your connection.

Types of NBN Connections

FTTP Fibre to the Premises This is where the optical fibre is run directly into the customers premises.
FTTN Fibre to the Node This is where the optical fibre is run to a central location, known as a node, and then connected to the property using the existing copper network.
FTTC Fibre to the Curb This is where the optical fibre is extended close to the customers premises (usually inside a pit) and then connected to the property using the existing copper network.
FTTB Fibre to the Building This is where the optical fibre is run to a buildings communications room and then connected to the property using the existing infrastructure.
HFC Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial This is where the existing cabling infrastructure, previously used for things like pay TV, is used to supply the connection.
FW Fixed Wireless This is where the connection is through a transmission tower to an outdoor antenna that’s located on the customers premises.
